January 25-29, 2009
Beginning in a single prison with a
large group of volunteers in 1979, the We Care Prison Crusade has been
held each year since then and now reaches into approximately 15
different prisons with an inmate population of over 12,000.
Held each January,
this event attracts hundreds of volunteers, evangelists, and musicians
from at least 15 states who carry the Gospel message to thousands of
men and women in Alabama’s prison system.
Participants meet
for a day of orientation and missions rally in Montgomery, Alabama,
after which they spread out into the Montgomery, Troy, Birmingham, and
Atmore areas for four days of in-prison ministry. Each morning
begins with a hearty breakfast followed by a workshop session with
gifted teachers in each locality. The volunteers then enter the
various prisons for ministry through friendship evangelism. Each
day in the prisons also includes a chapel service with special music
and evangelists.
Mature Christian
men and women ages 21 and older are welcome to participate.
(Several prisons allow younger persons, ages 18-20, by special
permission.)
Prayer is the foundation of the entire crusade.
To encourage our friends who are praying and to unite our prayers
around specific praises and concerns from the various prisons, we
distribute a Crusade Intercessor’s Bulletin each day of
the crusade. Sign up below to
receive daily
crusade updates and prayer requests.
